Supporting education

Perenco and the DRC's Minister of Hydrocarbons have worked closely to support education and, to date, more than 40 000 pupils have benefited from the resulting initiatives.

  • Equipment

Schools have received wide ranging education equipment previously in very short supply, including text books, stationary and sports equipment.

  • Transport

Perenco has funded a school bus network providing transport every morning and evening from the remote outlying villages to the city's schools and colleges.

    • School Repairs

Eight school buildings have been repaired so far, with work still ongoing in a further three (Kitona, Kongo and Muanda College).  Separately, 20 000 school benches have been built and installed, and electrical power supplied.

    • Scholarships

A Perenco funded scholarship programme supports the region's best students.  They are sent to Boma, Matadi or Kinshasa for further studies, after which they will return to Muanda.

    • Professional training.

Perenco has undertaken an extensive programme of works: repairing and expanding the secondary school, several training centres and training schools (Lycée Mbuetete, ITP of Banana, Kitona and Mbu, Institut du Centenaire, centre de formation commerciale, ITC of Muanda, Institut Moyo, ISNP, Centre de formation professionnelle de Muanda, Université Kasa Vubu of Boma.)
