Sahaban Bridge
Diyarbakir is situated in Turkey's isolated eastern region where the environment is harsh. The construction and maintenance of essential infrastructure is of particular benefit in such a remote area.
As a major contributor to social and economic infrastructure in the regions of its operations, Perenco built the Sahaban Bridge over the river Tigris and donated it to the local administration. Until then the inhabitants of the region used a small light-vehicle river crossing about 2km away from the new bridge. It could only be used during the dry season due to its insufficient height and strength. Alternatively, people had to take a long road around the river to reach Diyarbakir city centre.
The bridge has shortened the commute by 30km for almost 6,000 people from eight villages.
